Lib Dem Councillor Anna Toon with other opposition Councillors are fighting to have the closure of Dilwyn School by Herefordshire Council reconsidered by the Council's cabinet.
Terry James, Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Herefordshire Council said: "The decision by Herefordshire's Conservative cabinet to close Dilwyn School is confirmation of their policy to pick off rural schools one by one.
I have been told by a number of prospective parents that they were actively discouraged from sending their children to Dilwyn, this obviously being done to drive down pupil numbers and make it easier to close the school.
It appears that the Council's education department are actively discouraging parents sending their children to other small schools in the County which have previously been earmarked for closure.
Three years ago we saw over 5000 people marching through Hereford to protest against the closure and merger of schools in Herefordshire. Having had to back down to public pressure the Conservatives on Herefordshire Council are now trying to get their way through stealth. They are destroying all that is best in our County."
